Kids from hard places…..hmmm?

 

That’s not a term you hear often; however, in the foster care system you do.   To me, I always felt as though it’s a pacifying word.  It does not even begin to describe the things that children go through.  It’s simply a soft blow.   

 

In 2012 Glenn and I began our journey with foster care in the State of IL.  We made mistakes and we had some start over spots, however we kept striving.  The last 2 girls were ages 5 & 7 when they placed them.  They stayed with us for 4 years and we were hoping to adopt the girls, however their oldest sister turned 21 and they went to live with her after that.  We were heartbroken to say the least.  I was devastated enough I wanted nothing else to do with the foster system.

Fast forward 2023/24.  The girls, now 17 & 20, both reached out to us with separate messages thanking us for caring for them, loving them etc.  Something both said “because of you, we were happy kids” it was that statement, that message that blew my heart wide open and I looked at Glenn and said…. THIS IS WHY WE HAVE TO FOSTER!  PERIOD. At that moment I begin to let God back into that hurt place that I had closed off.

As we begun to surrender our will to his – he gave us a vision of more than just fostering.  He gave us a vision of a foster care center caring for multiple children and showing them the love of Jesus.  He showed us multiple homes & families doing the same thing all based on his blueprint, not ours.  In January 2025, we started our licensing process with the State of Texas.  We are starting with 3 children with plans to expand to 6 in 2026 and more home/families beyond that.  BIG VISION BIGGER GOD!

We are his hands & feet.  I completely understand that not everyone is called to foster however, all through the word of God it speaks about taking up the cause of the fatherless and looking after orphans.  We need monthly partners of any amount.  We need prayer intercessors to keep us lifted in prayer against the demonic that tries to stop growth.
